For foreign residents

Welcome to Münchenstein!

To help you settle in, we have the pleasure of providing you with information about our municipality in English.

Portrait

Our vibrant municipality is in a process of constant further development. As a result of its settlement structure, Münchenstein has a number of different facets to offer – each with its own exciting characteristics. Home to approximately 12,000 people, Münchenstein can look back over a history of more than 900 years. It boasts a village character and natural recreational space, on the one hand, while also featuring urban residential areas and modern business zones, on the other.

Despite the fact that Münchenstein is embedded in an urban environment and forms part of the Birsstadt region (which stretches from Birsfelden to Dornach), the municipality is still characterised by numerous detached family homes and small apartment blocks.

In addition, the “Brüglinger Ebene”, one of Switzerland’s largest green recreational areas, is located on Münchenstein territory. The "Park im Grünen", the "Villa Merian" and numerous sports facilities can be found here, including the FC Basel junior campus. A large number of clubs, a mixed selection of museums and many other attractions make Münchenstein an attractive suburban municipality.

Meet and speak for foreign women

At weekly meetings, foreign-language-speaking women practice their German in everyday situations and improve their speaking skills. The meetings give them an opportunity to exchange ideas and network with other women. The content is tailored to the needs of the participants and includes topics such as family, health, housing, mobility, nutrition, seasons and holidays. The meetings are held weekly from August to December and from January to June – with the exception of school holidays and public holidays. The meetings last 1.5 hours. Participants can join the group at any time.
